Ferroglobe PLC (GSM) is one of the world's largest producers of silicon metal, silicon based alloys and manganese based alloys and has quartz mining activities, metallurgical coal mining activities and interests in hydroelectric power across the globe, with operating units in eleven countries across North America, Europe, South America, Africa and Asia. Customers include manufacturers of steel, aluminum, silicones, ductile iron, automotive parts, photovoltaic (solar) cells and electronic semiconductors. GSM recycles and sells most of the by-products generated in its production processes. GSM is 55% owned by Grupo Villar Mir, a privately-owned Spanish industrial group headed by Juan-Miguel Villar Mir. The Group includes Spanish and foreign companies from sectors such as real estate, electrometallurgy, energy, fertilizers, construction, concessions and services.
